GDCI School Policy and Procedures

The following policies and procedures have been created by Administration of G.D.C.I. and follow a Board-wide Code of Conduct based on the Ontario Code of Student Behaviour.


Accidents, of any nature, must be reported promptly to the office by the student and the teacher in charge of a class or activity. An accident report must be completed. Accident insurance is made available to every student in September.

Alcohol and Drugs

The possession and/or consumption of alcohol and drugs on school property is strictly forbidden. Failure to comply with this policy will result in police involvement, suspension and/or expulsion from school. This policy applies to all field trips, all dances and all other school-related activities.

  • I know the specific expectations of technology use within each of my classes. When in doubt, I ask the teacher.
  • I will only film or take pictures for school related purposes, and only permission from a teacher.
  • I will ask for permission before contacting my parents/guardians.
  • I will use my device in an open and transparent manner.
  • I will take responsibility for keeping my device safe and secure at times.
  • I will ask for permission before using another’s device.
  • I will mute my device so that the sounds do not distract the learning of my peers or I will use earbuds.


Each student is entitled to a neat and clean cafeteria. Please show concern for others by clearing your table when you have finished eating. Please use the waste containers provided in the cafeteria. The kitchen opens at approximately 7:30 a.m.


Dances for Grade 7-12 students are organized for the benefit of students. Dances are restricted to students of G.D.C.I.; students may be permitted to sponsor ONE guest, who is a student of another school with the permission of the Vice-Principal or Principal. In such cases, a guest must be signed in prior to the dance. Doors will close to entrance usually 1 1/2 hours before the end of the dance. Dances are a school-sponsored activity, and, as such, will be conducted according to the policies and procedures of the school.

Full-Time Student and School Team Participation

Students must be registered in a minimum of 3 full-day school credit courses per semester in order to try-out, participate in practices and to play on and for a school team. Students, Coaches and Teachers should stay in contact with each other when academic success is being affected by continued team involvement.


Students are expected to be quiet in the halls during class times. Students on spares who remain in the school should be in the cafeteria or library.

Student Attire

  • GDCI does expect that any attire worn by those within the building cannot be associated with any form of hate  and that attire does not conceal the identify of a person within the building (no masks, hoods down etc).  Attire advertising or representing drugs and/or alcohol is not permitted.

      How to Determine Appropriate Attire for school:

  • Can you participate in the activities you will need to do without worrying about your clothing?
  • Is what you are wearing practical for the weather?
  • Will the clothing you wear seem out of place in that setting or will it communicate respect for where you are and who you are with based on the social norms of that setting? (Think of an orchestra performance versus a rock concert, a funeral, a wedding, or catching a movie versus attending a theatre performance.)
  • Are YOU comfortable with the parts of your body that are showing and that others may notice those parts and though we are not responsible for the actions of others, how will you feel if someone says something about that?
  • Are you aware of what inspired you to pick that outfit and what you feel it expresses about yourself and communicates to others?
  • Are your genitals adequately protected and safe from accidental harm or accidental exposure?

Harassment – Sexual, Racial, Ethno Cultural Bullying

  • Students are expected to treat others with respect and without harassment of any sort. Threats, offensive clothing, unwanted phone calls, e-mails, or texts, damage to personal property, or any behaviour unwanted by another, are all considered harassment. Every member of the school community has the same rights, regardless of sex, race or ethno cultural background.
  • Sexual harassment involves remarks, gestures or actions of a sexual nature that are known or thought reasonably to be known as unwelcome. Such behaviour is illegal.
  • Harassment will result in an interview with the Principal and/or Vice-Principal.
  • Students will be suspended for persistent harassment and the police will be called.

Lockers and Lock

Lockers will be assigned, and students must maintain their assigned locker. Students are not to change lockers or share lockers. Students who violate these rules may lose locker privileges altogether. Note that the school does not accept responsibility for lost or stolen items from lockers. Lockers remain the property of the school and may be opened or requested to be opened by administration at any time, and without notice. Dudley combination locks may be purchased in the school office.

Lost, Stolen or Broken Personal Property

The school will not be held responsible for lost, stolen or broken personal property, including personal electronics devices, money and jewellery. Students bring their personal property to school at their own risk.


Students who require medication to be administered at school during the school day are required to complete Form 3158 “Administration of Prescription Medication” and return it signed by a parent/guardian.


Due to limited space in our parking lot, drive to school only when absolutely necessary and park on the west side of the west parking lot only in the white lined section. Parking in the Bennett Street parking lot is reserved for Administration staff only. Please drive and park courteously.
